Why do I need this certification?
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has revised its existing requirements for powered industrial truck operator training (codified at 29 CFR 1910.178(l)) and issued new requirements to improve the training of these operators.

Who needs this training?
Any lift truck operator in all industries (general industry, construction, shipyards, marine terminals, and long-shoring operations) in which the trucks are being used, except agricultural operations.

How long is certification good for?
Evaluations of each operator' s performance are required as part of the initial and refresher training, and at least once every three years.

Also, safety training is required if: the operator is involved in an accident or a near-miss incident; the operator has been observed operating the vehicle in an unsafe manner; the operator has been determined during an evaluation to need additional training; there are changes in the workplace that could affect safe operation of the truck; or the operator is assigned to operate a different type of truck.

How does online training work?
Enrolled students need only to have Internet access. We recommend using the Netscape or Internet Explorer browser. Download the course module and double click to open the material. There, course materials are presented for self-study. Section quizzes are presented and may be taken multiple times in preparation for the final exam. The student then takes the final exam. The practical portion is monitored by the supervisor/training manager who uses an OSHC, Inc. checklist to certify each task was completed safely.

What are the enrollment procedures?
1. Enroll into the course of your choice. If you are a supervisor or training manager, you may enroll multiple operators who need training.
2. Each enrollee is given a user name and password to take the final exam. The course may be printed and studied. Non-graded pages, quizzes prepare operator for final exam.
3. A graded final exam is taken by each enrollee. A passing grade enables the enrollees' supervisor or training manager to evaluate the operator. The supervisor or training manager uses the OSHC, Inc. checklist to evaluate operator.
4. When the completed checklist is received by OSHC, a certificate of completion and wallet card is mailed to the operator. This should take about 5 days. Operator will receive email notification of approval.

How long does the course take to complete?
The course may take 3-4 hours to complete. You have 90 days to finish the course.

What is a "free retake?
If you do not pass the final exam. OSHC, Inc. will contact you to determine if additional training materials are needed. OSHC, Inc. will reset the final exam after you review the additional training materials.
